My trip just happened to coincide with the tail end of the Cannes International Film Festival which meant I was able to spot the red carpet and a few other remnants of festival activities which was fun.
Both Cannes and Monaco are popular among the rich and famous as a vacation destination during the summer months and for good reason. This part of France exudes a sense of wealth and sophistication that almost seems to waft through the air. Care to spend an afternoon among the elite? Here are a few suggestions for a quick afternoon in both cities.

WHERE TO SHOP
- Take a stroll along the water on Boulevard de la Croisette. Here is where you’ll spot a variety of boats along with upscale stores such as Dior, Prada, Bvlgari, and Louis Vuitton.
- Be sure to also take a stroll along Rue d’Antibes which is lined with upscale shops along with more affordable boutiques. This avenue is also where you’ll find Laudree which is the perfect place to grab yourself a sweet treat, I’m talking macarons, baby!

SWEET TREATS
- Laudree is famous around the world for their macarons and has a lovely shop located at 79 Rue d’Antibes.
- Jean Luc Pelé although not as widely known is still very much popular in this area. They offer the same quality as Laudree (maybe better in my opinion) and are slightly more affordable with a large selection of flavors to choose from, I went with pistachio and it was delicious. You can also purchase freshly baked bread and pastries in their shop located at 36-38 Rue Meynadier.

If Cannes says wealth then Monaco screams it from the roof tops, yacts yacts yacts!! It was recommended that I dress my best to visit this glamorous city since I wouldn’t see anything less walking down the street. I, on the other hand, had a completely different experience.
In addition to visiting Cannes for the Cannes Film Festival, unbeknownst to me, I just happened to visit Monaco during another world-renowned event, the Formula 1 Grand Prix. This means instead of women carrying Gucchi bags, I was met with crowds of men from around the world dressed in team attire which led to an entirely different experience but fun nonetheless.
SHOP, EAT & EXPLORE
- If you’re looking to get out of the sun, pop into the indoor shopping mall Metropole Shopping Monte-Carlo, It may just be one of the most elegant malls I’ve ever come across. My jaw nearly dropped when I saw the spiral stair cases and gold and crystal chandeliers hanging throughout.
- Stop for a nice lunch in the city center.
- Walk up to the Prince’s Palace of Monaco, be sure to arrive promptly at 11:55am to witness the changing of the guard.
